Apparently Famitsu has spilled the beans and stated that all of the 221 published first party NES, SNES and N64 games will be available for free download on the Revolution.

Here is a link to the Nintendo Forums, where it seems someone is compiling a list of what those games will be...

Nintendo Forums

Truth? Fiction? Enough to make you want the Revolution so bad that you'll stab your mother?

That's for YOU to decide.

I think there's nothing official yet, but yeah, we discuss this briefly on the vgs too. smile.gif

They want to have the stuff be free, or as cheap as possible. Good move, good move.

Of course, it's available for free* anyway, thanks to the score of emulators available on PC and Xbox. It's a nice thing to have, but I wouldn't pay a cent for it.

* For a given value of "free".

For a guy who comes across like a Nintendo hater you sure do your research! Yes, they're available for "free" if you're willing to do illegal things to get them, personally I'm not and you know what? Neither are a lot of other people. Just because you can pirate doesn't mean every one else can or even wants to for that matter. I like the idea and if they're free maybe it will eliminate those getting them the illegal way. Even if they launch with only one game Smash Bros. and half of the games on this list, it'll still be a bigger guarnteed "hit" launch than the other two consoles.

Edit: Here's an article from the hard working people at

LOL, you have to go bonk CNC on the head, he was designated "nintendo defender". I'm not sure if he succeeded last night or not...

By the way I failed to mention earlier that Spanky's Quest is not on the list.

Not everything on that list is first party developed, Final Fantasy is on there and I think I remember a certain geometrical company made that.

I was designated as Nintendo Defander since Red is still stuck in "The Town That Broadband Has Forgotten" and can't get high-speed Internet access to join the DreamStation.cc Video Game Show himself.

I tried to support them and I like their products, but I just think they are going to have a hard battle next round unless they pull something out of their hat with Revolution. I wouldn't count Nintendo out yet, since all of the Revolution information is vague, almost Phantom like. tongue.gif hehe... Where is CraigD when you need him? biggrin.gif hehe...

I'm not a Nintendo hater - I've owned all of their consoles at some point, and bought many of their games (I'm even an importer, I'll only buy the NTSC versions of game consoles) - it's just that they constantly under-deliver to my expectations, and their hardware doesn't stack up to the competition.

I'm sorry if you feel I'm a hater because I don't apologetically cling to them as some bastion of gaming-goodness... but I just feel that their time has passed as a console manufacturer, and their time would be better spent developing software for better platforms. I have no emotional buy in to their franchises as I grew up playing non-nintendo games. Zelda is fun, but I don't care if there is another one or not.

The verdict is still out on Revolution (as it doesn't exist yet), but based on the last couple of consoles... Well, we'll see.

See Red, I thought of you, and I think you should revoke this guy's "fanboy card" as he failed. wink.gif

This just in - Downloadable games NOT free, says Nintendo President Saturo Iwata;

Basically the, Prez. says that it was never the plan to offer the games for free. Some might be used as incentives to people who purchase Revolution games, or maybe part of a marketing campaign - but if you're dreaming of a free back catalogue, I think you're out of luck.

*Cough*emulators*cough*.

Sorry, had to clear my throat.

If anyone actually believed those games were coming free then they must still believe that little gnomes make their car move by running around in those hamster wheels. I don't mind if they say download Super Mario RPG free when you buy the new Smash Bros. game. I don't have a problem with that

I'm not going to lie to you. I didn't actually read the list. Oh sure, I glanced at it briefly, skimmed it, if you will, but at no time did I read it.
