Full Version: Our Google AdSense Account Disabled by Google

DreamStation.cc's Google AdSense account was disabled after running Google ads on DreamStation.cc for 8 years. My appeal was denied with no details on why or how to fix it. cry.gif

We didn't make a lot from the ads, but it was enough to pay for the web hosting and shipping out games for review for the staff in the past. Currently, DreamStation.cc has no revenue coming in besides the very little from the content links from Vibrant Media and the occasional purchase from someone who clicks the links in the footer of the website to Amazon.com and others before making a purchase.

I can't believe we have been banned from Google Adsense after being one of the earlier adopters. I know that the recent server load and traffic from outside the U.S. from hackers and spammers may have lead to this problem, but I was working to fix this problem and would've liked to have gotten more details before being kicked out of the program. If Google would've given me more details then I could've tried to fix the problem, but instead they pointed me to the following page that doesn't really answer anything:

- Your AdSense account may be disabled for invalid activity

Here are the emails I received from them about this problem and my replies:

QUOTE
Hello,

After reviewing our records, we've determined that your AdSense account
poses a risk of generating invalid activity. Because we have a
responsibility to protect our AdWords advertisers from inflated costs due
to invalid activity, we've found it necessary to disable your AdSense
account. Your outstanding balance and Google's share of the revenue will
both be fully refunded back to the affected advertisers.

Please understand that we need to take such steps to maintain the
effectiveness of Google's advertising system, particularly the
advertiser-publisher relationship. We understand the inconvenience that
this may cause you, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and
cooperation.

If you have any questions or concerns about the actions we've taken, how
you can appeal this decision, or invalid activity in general, you can find
more information by visiting
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/...py?answer=57153.

Sincerely,

The Google AdSense Team

My appeal included the following in their form that gives you very little room to explain. They give you one line to type in per question. The field names below were their hidden variables from the Invalid Activity Appeal Form. Items 1 - 17 were related to my name address, IP number, etc.:

QUOTE
18_WebAudience: Video game, technology, and computer enthusiasts.

19_UserGeography: United States, but we also get visitors from around the world based on our statistics.

20_UserAccessMode: Home DSL and Cable Lines, Mobile Devices, University and Office Intranets, and maybe Internet Cafes.

21_ScrapedContent: We post press releases we receive via email from our public relations contacts in the video game industry on our website and inform them when they have been added. We do not copy content from other websites.

22_ContentSources: Email from video game industry contacts and public relations companies. We write our own articles and publish our own podcast from time to time. We also have a message board that members ask questions on.

23_NumAdmins: 4

24_UpdateFrequency: Daily or at least Weekly

25_BoughtTraffic: no

26_UsePayTo: no

27_TrafficSources: Our visitors find our site via search engines, directly visit the URL, from links on our Twitter and Facebook pages, and other websites.

28_AdvertiserValue: We have been running DreamStation.cc since 1999 and have been a member of Google Adsense for at least 10 years and have never had a problem. Our members are interested in video games, electronics, computers, technology, and I believe that advertisers of these products would like to promote their products to them. We are a group of hard core gamers and buy the systems on launch day. I have a PlayStation Vita pre-ordered and plan on talking about it on the website and showing it to my friends and family.

29_UserIncentive: No. Some of the members are my friends, but I have never told them to click the ads unless they are interested in them and even then not to click them over and over.

30_ViolatedTerms: I am not aware of ever violating the Terms & Conditions.

31_InvalidActivity: Our hosting company recently informed us that our hosting account was using a lot of server resources. When I looked into it I found that we were receiving a lot of visitors from China, Russia, and other places from overseas. I am guessing these were spam bots of other hacking scripts. I have since installed ZB Block and blocked a bunch of the IP numbers via .htaccess and continue to monitor this activity. Our hosting company told us last week that our server resource usage has been reduced and they are happy again.

Maybe these same bots were causing problems with our Adsense ads? I also noticed that the MSN /Bing bot was hitting our site a lot and I have added a rule to our "robot.txt" file to slow down its indexing. Can search engine bots or other spam bots cause problems with the Adsense ads? I am using the JavaScript code to implement the ads on our
site. I haven't updated that code in a long time. Has it been changed by Google and is that the problem? Am I using old code? It was still working, so I didn't change it.

32_SuspiciousData: See above message related to spam bots and search engines hitting our site a lot and causing increase server load. I believe I fixed this problem a week or two ago and I am continuing to work on trying to filter out all the bad IP numbers from overseas countries.

NOTE: I thought it was 10, but I realize they have only been around since 2003 after some research.

After sending this email I had our hosting company run a security scan of the server and they found on malicious file under our OpenAds program that servers our ads on DreamStation.cc. After receiving this info I deleted the full directory and upgraded our ad banner software to the latest OpenX platform.

No explanation, no details, just permit banning of our site and account after 8 years of using them and providing them with profits. Granted, they also helped us earn money over the years, but after running their ads for 8 years without a problem you would think they would have the common courtesy to give us more details and allow us to fix the problem. There is no phone number to call or email address to write to and ask for more details. There is only the appeal form mentioned about that you are only supposed to use once.

This situation has left a bad taste in my mouth about Google. This situation has encouraged me to stop my AdWords campaign where I was paying Google $10 a month (I know it wasn't much.) to advertise DreamStation.cc and maybe get a few visitors. If they are not going to pay us the $50 or less a month then I am not going to pay them my $10.

Maybe I should start using Bing for my search engine???

I am going to try looking into other advertising avenues and for now I have the GameStop and Play-Asia.com ads running, but I am guessing they won't pull in much for the website. Thank you for listening to my rant and now you know why there are no more AdWords ads on DreamStation.cc if you were wondering.

Yeah it sucks to hear this. sad.gif

I wonder how many other people they have done this to and caused them to lose more revenue than we have?

Could you imagine if you ran a website that made hundreds or thousands of dollars from Google AdSense and then all of a sudden got the plug pulled with no explanation of why or how to fix the problem?

I surely hope they would provide more info to someone making that much money, but you never know.
Hucast
Have you tried looking at their forums? This appears to be a pretty common problem.

It sucks that these huge companies can have random rules for people and there's not a thing you can do about it because they make the rules. I've seen people complain that Amazon shut down their accounts for no apparent reason, too. What can someone do about a business choosing who they want to associate with? Not a thing and that's what sucks most.

I am now experimenting with OpenX Market for serving the ads on DreamStation.cc, since we have used the OpenX platform to serve our ads for many years. I don't know what type of ads OpenX Market will serve or how much their advertisers are willing to pay for our advertising space. I will see how it goes over the next week or so and go from there.

I wish we could still be using Google AdSense banners, but maybe OpenX Market will end up being better anyways???

Please let me know if you see any questionable ads or anything else that doesn't seem right during this experiment. If you can post below the advertiser of the offensive ad and any other details that would help me block them.

Google AdSense is slimy. They're one of the major reasons I don't trust Google as a whole

I put up ads on my site and made about $100 in revenue. The advertisers obviously objected because they weren't getting high enough of a ratio of sales:clicks so they complained to Google and banned me. The end result is either

A ) Google possibly made $100 off of me and pocketed it
B ) The advertisers got free advertising at the expense of the little guy

Either way Google didn't do anything to protect me from this and they have no real way to appeal it or ever get an account with them back

My suggestion to you is to try Chitika ads if you must, or to setup donations possibly. Personally I pay out of pocket even though its not nice on my wallet tongue.gif
