SANTA MONICA, Calif. - November 16, 2009 - GameTrailers.com (GT), the premier provider of video for gamers and a division of Viacom Inc.’s (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B) MTV Networks Entertainment Group, announced today that Ubisoft’s highly anticipated sequel Assassin’s Creed® II has earned the coveted GameTrailers Diamond Award for exceeding an astounding 10 million video views. This marks the second GT Diamond Award for the Assassin’s Creed® series, and the third overall for Ubisoft.
Assassin’s Creed II allows players to delve deeper into the secret society of assassins, but this time they will take on the role of Ezio, an assassin of Renaissance Italy. In an epic story of family, vengeance and conspiracy set in the pristine, yet brutal, backdrop of a Venice and Florence, players will once again learn to become a master assassin, this time with the help of a new friend - Leonardo da Vinci. This action-adventure game retains the core gameplay that stemmed the blockbusters success of Assassin’s Creed, but with added challenges to surprise players.
“The support for Assassin’s Creed II from the GameTrailers community has been awesome,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “We look forward to seeing the response to the game once it hits store shelves on November 17.”
“The original Assassin’s Creed was one of the first games to ever receive a GameTrailers Diamond Award, so it comes as little surprise that the sequel would follow suit,” said Shane Satterfield, editor-in-chief of GameTrailers.com. “Ubisoft has crafted an extremely unique franchise and it shows in the response it’s received from our users. We applaud the publisher for pushing the envelope and not just maintaining the status quo.”
The figures for the GameTrailers Diamond Award were compiled by Stream Stats, a proprietary tool that gives gaming industry professionals insight into which games the GT audience is interacting with the most in order to anticipate upcoming sales and analyze post-release performance.
