New Behind-The-Scenes Video Highlights Composer Jim Dooley’s ‘Epic Score’.
October 29, 2010 - Disney Interactive Studios is proud to announce that Disney Epic Mickey, the highly anticipated title exclusively for WiiTM, has been nominated for Best Original Video Game Score by the Hollywood Music In Media Awards (HMMA). In conjunction with this nomination, a new behind-the-scenes trailer titled “Epic Score” has been released which takes an in-depth look at the magical work of Jim Dooley, the luminary composer behind the score of Disney Epic Mickey and its powerful impact on the game’s atmosphere.
“It’s been a rewarding experience creating music that captures the iconic feel of classic Disney film scores for a video game that authentically celebrates the early days of the Disney canon,” said Jim Dooley, the score composer for Disney Epic Mickey. “It’s exciting that Hollywood Music in Media has continued to embrace the art of the game score. My work with video games and films has demonstrated the similarities of epic score in their sound and narrative. I’m honored to be selected as part of their group of highly skilled nominees.”
Disney Interactive Studios’ Junction Point development studio auditioned dozens of composers in order to find the perfect “Disney sound” for the game. The new trailer released today takes a behind-the-scenes look from the perspective of Junction Point at how Dooley was not only able to describe that sound, but adeptly capture it in Disney Epic Mickey. Disney Epic Mickey is an action-adventure platforming game for Wii that sends Mickey Mouse on an epic journey of creativity and discovery. As Mickey, the player is propelled into Wasteland, an alternate world made up of Disney’s long forgotten characters and attractions, and is given the power to wield paint and paint thinner to dynamically change the world while determining Mickey’s path to becoming an epic hero.
Through the use of this unique paint and paint thinner, the key components of animation and Mickey’s tools for impacting his world, players will have the ability to shape how the story unfolds as they discover the concept of “Playstyle Matters” - an innovative style of gameplay created by Disney Interactive Studios’ Junction Point development studio, led by industry luminary Warren Spector, where players creatively tackle different challenges in the world to explore all the possibilities and storylines - but with consequences for their chosen actions.
Disney Epic Mickey will be available exclusively for Wii on November 30.
