LittleBigPlanet Delayed Due to Offensive Religious References

LittleBigPlanet, the game that many PlayStation 3 owners have been waiting for has been delayed for at least a few days because of an issue with religious content. Patrick Seybold- Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media had this to say about the delay on the PlayStation Blog:

During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused.

We will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27th. Sorry for the delay, and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible.

¬†Apparently, it was found to be offensive by a Muslim user who had a problem with the songs inclusion of quotes from the Qur’an. Thankfully for those of you who have been anxiously awaiting the game it will only be delayed about a week.

I have to wait another week for my birthday present that is already over a month late??? ARGH!!! :p hehe…

I guess they need to remove the song before they release the game and have people sue them for millions.

I wonder if all the songs in Rock Band and Guitar Hero are safe? I have never paid attention to them to see if they say anything offensive in them.

Hmmm… maybe we can own Activision or MTV if we find something in one of those games and sue them? :D hehe…

Well those games are rated T for teen. I don’t know the rating on LBP, but I’m guessing they’re targeting a mass audience, so the more people they offend the smaller that audience gets. Plus, lets not forget Sony has been in trouble for other religious references in the past like Resistance Fall of Man, that PlayStation ad a few years back with the crown of thorns, etc. Because this is a worldwide release and recall, it’s a pretty big deal.
