Do you have the original Xbox 360, before it had a built-in HDMI port on the back? Are you stuck either connecting it to your HDTV via the component or VGA cable? Are you jealous of all the new Xbox 360 owners that get HDMI out-of-the-box? If you answered “yes” to one or all of these questions, then MadCatz might be able to help.
MadCatz is bringing to market soon an HDMI Conversion Kit for Xbox 360 that will plug into your HDMI port lacking Xbox 360’s standard video out connection and then convert the signal to output via an HDMI port on the back of it. It will also include an optical audio output in case you want to hook up your audio through optical out instead of via the HDMI cable.
This device looks cool, but I am still wondering if it will let you watch true 1080p movies off of your external HD DVD drive add-on. I had heard previously that the only way to watch HD DVD movies in true 1080p with your Xbox 360 without built-in HDMI was via the VGA cable because of copy protection related to HD DVD and 1080p signals.
