Metallica to Debut First Single From New Album In Rock Band?

In what seems like just another move to show less actual musical programming on their flagship station, MTV Networks (the owner of Harmonix the developer of Rock Band) has announced that rock icons, Metallica have reserved the right to make their first single available as downloadable content in the hit game, Rock Band. It seems as though the power to reach music lovers through video games is going to surpass the more traditional means like radio and television. At the very least it’s grabbing headlines all over the internet, so their plan is going over pretty well, so far.

MTV hopes that the first single off of the new Metallica album will mean big money for the two parties, as they try to revolutionize the music industry all over again. MTV and Harmonix hope to add weekly content to the game as they work with more and more musicians for the game. When knows more about the Metallica single, you’ll know.

As a fan of the game, I can only see this as a good thing. While I am not a huge fan of Metallica, with all the downloading that happens on the internet, this is a good way for them to get their song out there as well as make a bit of money.

My real question about Rock Band is, where’s my full album downloads of The Who’s “Who’s Next” and Nirvana’s “Nevermind”? That’s what I am looking forward too more than anything.

How much will all these songs cost to download weekly? Take a $169 game already and then add $1.00 here and $2.00 there and this game could easily break the bank.

Which game has the better music selection in your opinion, Guitar Hero I, II, III, Encore: Rocks the 80s or Rock Band?

Well, for Rock Band, the downloads are either 440 MS points (About $5.50 I think) for a 3 song pack, or 160 MS points (About $2.00) for an individual song. But for me, that’s ok, because I don’t truely buy alot of games. I have about 7 games total for my Xbox 360, and out of those 7, 2 of them are Guitar Hero (II and III) and one is Rock Band. So it’s really not weird for me to spend a few bucks on a download since I don’t spend that much on games to begin with.

As far as which game has the better music selection, I am going to have to go with a tie between GH I and Rock Band. I LOVE the music in both these games. And now that Rock band has some good songs for download as well, Queens of the Stone Age, a David Bowie pack, Metallica, and a few other well known songs (Fortunate Son and Juke Box Hero FTW!) I find myself playing Rock Band more than anything else.
