PlayStation 3 Firmware Update v2.41 Includes Trophies and In-Game XMB

After a shaky release of the latest PlayStation 3 firmware v2.40 got taken offline last week, Sony has managed to fix the issues and has since released v2.41 for public consumption. The latest firmware update adds trophies (similar to achievements on the Xbox 360) and an in-game XMB (cross menu bar) as well as Google search from the PlayStation main menu. With the new XMB you can read or send messages while in game, view other friends online, see the clock and date, play your own custom music in-game, and more. The trophy system is also new and will eventually allow you to display all your accomplishments within your house when Sony launches “Home”. Lastly, the Google search function lets you enter in a search term without having to enter the Internet browser and going directly to Google.com. You can do it from the main menu and you will then be taken directly to the search results.
