PlayStation 3 Video on Demand Coming in Early 2008 for Japan

According to reports, Japanese PlayStation 3 owners will be able to download high-definition video content on to their PlayStation 3 hard drives early in 2008.  The first things to be offered will be motor-racing videos and a BBC documentary to hopefully appeal to people playing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue that is coming on December 13, 2007 in Japan.  Each of the videos will cost $1.85 to download.

Sony plans to kick off the service and promote Gran Tursimo 5 Prologue by offering free downloads of “The GT-R Legend Inside Story I.”  This video will be the first part in a three part documentary about the Nissan GT-R race car.  PS3 owners in Japan can download the video free-of-charge through December 6th and the other two parts will go online after the game’s launch.

No plans for a North American release of this content or service have been provide as of this posting.
