Pokémon Black and Pokémon White Versions Shatter Japanese Sales Record at Launch

New Pokémon™ Nintendo DS™ Video Games Become Fastest Selling Ever in Japan.

Bellevue, WA—September 22, 2010—After months of anticipation, the Japanese launch of Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version video games for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems are living up to high expectations, becoming the fastest selling DS games ever in Japan over the first week of sales, The Pokémon Company International announced today.  Following a record-breaking presale that saw 1.88 million units sold in Japan, initial sales over the first week of the games’ launch have totaled 2.55 million amidst much fanfare and excitement.

Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version introduce a generation of never-before-seen Pokémon characters featured in a thrilling new storyline set in a brand new region.  Fans across Japan stood in long lines when the games launched last Saturday, eagerly awaiting the opportunity to become the first to play the new adventure.  Immediate sales show no signs of slowing, and with an international launch set for spring 2011, Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version video games are on pace to becoming the best selling in the Pokémon franchise’s history.

    It is kind of crazy that the games continue to sell as well as they do after all of these years. I guess there is always new kids like my son that want the games as soon as they come out. Plus, the older kids and adults that played the old games want to see the new Pokemon and what the new games have to offer.
