SingStar for PlayStation 3 is finally coming to the US and Canada on May 20, 2008 and will include full access to the SingStore and My SingStar Online. The game will come with 30 songs on the disc and the US SingStore will have around 200 downloadable songs available at $1.49 each. These downloadable songs will include the song, music video by the original artist, and will be fully playable in SingStar. Sony is also planning on adding 25 to 50 new songs to the SingStore every month. Have any of you played the previous SingStar games and are they any good?

How do the SingStar games compare to the Karaoke Revolution games?

What do you think about having to pay $1.49 per song if you want to sing to more than the 30 songs that come on the disc?

I did the math and if you wanted to get all 200 extra songs from the store you would have to pay around $300 and that is not including the additional 25 to 50 songs coming out each month after launch. What do you think of this?

Does this mean that this will be the last SingStar game you need to buy and you will just get more music by buying the songs you like instead of having to buy new versions of the game each year for $60 a pop? Is this the better way to go or do you like buying new version of the game on disc each year?

Okay, I was looking forward to this after playing at E3 last year. The music video in the background is cooler than looking at a make believe avatar of yourself like in the Karaoke Revolution games, but only 30 songs? That’s so weak. It better be 30 unlocked and 30 more to unlock because 30 is just such a low number for a game like this. Even the Karaoke Revolution games had a bigger total than this would. Hopefully they have free songs on occasion, too.

The info I saw said 30 songs on the disc with additional songs available for $1.49 each from the SingStore.

This generation of systems should be called the “Microtransaction Generation”, since all the games anymore want to nickel and dime us to death with additional songs and features after we buy the game at the store. It is cool that they keep extending the life of games with microtransactions, but if you add up $1.50 here and $5.00 there it can get very expensive real quick.

I also agree that they should give you more than 30 songs on the disc, but maybe that is the most they can fit on it along with the high definition video?

It would be nice to at least have 1 of the 25 to 50 songs per month for free also. Maybe like how iTunes has the free song of the week. That would be cool to keep the game fresh and allow people that don’t want to spend $1.49 per song or can’t afford that to still be able to get a new song from time-to-time.
