Will a New Nintendo DS Be Announced Tomorrow???

According to MCV’s source in Japan, they are stating that a new Nintendo DS handheld system will be revealed tomorrow at the Nintendo Press Conference being held in Japan.  There is not a lot known about the new device, but it is being called the “multimedia” model and is rumored to feature an MP3 player and digital camera. The price and release date has not been revealed but it is spectulated that it will arrive before Christmas 2008.  Will that be only in Japan or worldwide?  I guess we will have to wait an see.

The other rumored feature of the new Nintendo DS is that it will include advanced wireless communications functions and it is expected to retail for less than 20,000 yen ($189) in Japan.

I guess this news is not that surprising, since the original Nintendo DS launched in November of 2004.  Also, recently there have been different reports stating that the PSP has been outselling the Nintendo DS for a few months in Japan.

I think that if Nintendo is bring out a new Nintendo DS they should also include an accelerometer in it to make it comparable to the iPhone and iPod Touch and their own Wii system, but this feature has not been mentioned yet.

If this is just another remake of the DS I must say I’m going to be highly disappointed. If they’re going to offer like a next generation of DS however I wouldn’t mind putting down some cash on this I’m just tired of seeing handhelds getting release with major improvements that should have been in the original design :( PSP and DS have both done this already however PSP seems to be worse (they are on their 3rd remake)

No GBA slot equals a no sale for me..

And as much as a camera is awesome and will probably replace pictochat somehow, imagine the sudden influx of male private parts floating all around little Japanese girls DS’s.

    Ill pass thanks

Thats true, but man, I am an all in one person, so I still own all of my original GBA games.

Plus what is going to become of things like Pokemon GBA to DS transfers, or for that matter, my awesome Guitar Hero DS will pretty much be defunct.

I like the new features. I am thinking this will boost sales of the DS again starting with one right here. I don’t play the GBA games much anymore so it is no big deal for me. I really like the addition of the SD slot.

It doesn’t sound like the CPU or GPU in the system is any better, which is surprising to me. How well will the built-in web browser work with the current CPU? The current Opera-based Nintendo DS Web Browsers is really slow, almost unusable slow with the current capabilities of the Nintendo DS.

I wonder if they will be able to connect a peripheral like the Guitar Hero one via the SD card slot??? I know they would have to bring out a new Guitar Hero adapter to do this, but maybe it si possible? If they can’t then maybe they could just use both touch screens to do the same thing? Have the top touch screen have the buttons and the bottom be the strum bar as usual???

I don’t really play any GBA games anymore either, so removing that slot also isn’t that big of a deal to me.

If they haven’t upgrade the processor in the system, then why did they go through all of this effort to make these changes but keep the systems graphics and processing power the same. That doesn’t make sense to me. How well will the system be able to handle the video and pictures through the camera with the current CPU? I would have thought they would have make made the processor more powerful, but also still be able to play all the previous DS games.

I guess I know what I’ll be asking for next xx holiday. I’m in, but I’m a sucker for this kind of stuff. Plus, my current DS Lite is cracked on the hinge and is close to getting retired.
