Xbox Issues Gamerscore Corrections for Cheaters

Major Nelson is reporting that today any gamerscore accounts that may have been tampered with have gotten a rude awakening when their gamerscore was adjusted by the good folks at Xbox LIVE. The following steps may have occurred:

  • Resetting an account score to zero.
  • Said account will not be able to regain the achievement points previously unlocked, though, they will be able to earn any other achievements legitimately.
  • The account will clearly be marked for cheating for everyone to view on Xbox.com and you will be able to see via in dash the markings of fraud. You can see an example here: A cheaters gamercard

I for one am glad that they are doing this. But I don’t think they are going to catch a a lot of people.

What do the people that cheated to boost their Gamerscore really gain by doing this?

Were they in the Old Spice Challenges and using these cheats to win the prizes or were they just doing this so they could tell all their friends that they had a huge Gamerscore?

Either way, it seems like a lot of effort for little gain. If they were only doing this to have a really high Gamerscore then I think they need to find something more productive to do with their lives.

Agreed. Now if they could only get rid of the rest of the scum that resides in the LIVE community we’d be set.
