Xbox Live Free Content Delayed for Silver Members

If you are only an Xbox Live Silver member then you will be waiting a little longer to play all those hot off the presses Xbox 360 demos now that the new Xbox 360 Fall 2007 Dashboard Update has arrived. Starting today, all demos and other free content will be available to Xbox Live Gold members for one week before being made available to the masses that only have the free Silver accounts.

The Fall update has a special message to reflect this if you are XBox Live Silver member that says the following:

This item is currently for Xbox LIVE Gold members only. Silver members can check again in a few days or upgrade to an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership.

If you have a Silver account and see a piece of content that has a red circle with a slash through it, like the Ghostbusters symbol, then you know you will be waiting a little while longer before you can get it.

Microsoft says this is not done to annoy Silver members, but that limited time exclusive access to content is just one of the many benefits of having a Xbox Live Gold Membership.

It makes sense to delay this feature for silver members, as this feature should be a gold members feature, but I would personally would like to see other features incorporated to LIVE like fastter DL for LIVE content for gold members instead of delaying the silvers DL. Dedicated servers would be nice too.

I am guessing Silver member will have to wait an extra week to download the Burnout Paradise Demo that is coming out next week.

Maybe by delaying the Silver members by one week it will give more server resources to Gold members trying to get things the day they are released?

I am not sure how the Xbox Live network and servers work and this might not matter, since Silver members will probably be downloading other things instead. You would think it should cut down the amount of people trying to get new things the minute they are online.
